Hilary Summers and Bethan Dudley-Fryar Celebration of the bicentenary of Robert Schumann’s birth in a joint recital of solo songs and duets |
As this season of concerts draws to a close it is time to renew our thanks to all who have performed such a wide variety of music in aid of the Tower Fund. To date we have raised in excess of £670. Audience numbers have varied considerably and there is clearly scope for more sustained pro-active publicity next year.
Our thanks are also due to our sponsors whose support has aided the costs of brochure printing and not least to Eric Harding who has faithfully tuned and regulated the pianoforte each time it has been required.
On 8th September we welcome back the ‘cellist Lorna Davis accompanied by Charles Matthews; their main work will be Chopin’s ‘Cello Sonata in G minor and pieces by Lalo and Ravel. Now that the repairs to the organ have been completed Christopher Kent will conclude this year's lunchtime series on 6th October with a complete performance of Elgar’s Sonata in G Op.28.
An extra date for your diary is Saturday 27th November at 7.30pm when we shall welcome the internationally acclaimed contralto Hilary Summers and former Welsh National Opera member Bethan Dudley-Fryar for a final celebration of the bicentenary of Robert Schumann’s birth in a joint recital of solo songs and duets.
Plans for 2011 are in hand, and the season will begin on the evening of Good Friday (22nd April) with a concert of seasonally appropriate Baroque music given by The St. Nicholas Consort mainly on period instruments. The composers include Buxtehude, François Couperin, Marin Marais, Kirnberger and a Passiontide Cantata by J.S. Bach.
